What is this Earthing talk?
Earthing or Grounding is when you make barefoot skin to ground contact. What happens when doing this is the human body becomes a sponge that soaks up negatively-charged electrons from the earth.
You may have heard of someone saying how they have to get their washer grounded to prevent electrical shock from happening. A long copper cord is used as a conductor into the ground because the earth holds a negative charge which balances out that current. The earth is a natural source of electrons.
Why do we benefit from Earthing or Grounding?
Because humans are also electrical beings, we also benefit from touching the Earth with our bare feet. It can restore and stabilize the bioelectrical circuitry that governs your physiology. Your body is conductive because it contains a large number of electrolytes. Electrolytes are a positive charged ion what dissolves in water. Your blood and other body fluids are therefore conductors. We as humans are made of 60% water ourselves. Maybe you have heard about how an electric current shock can go through one person and shock another person.
As well as stabilizing your bio-electrical circuitry, Earthing and Grounding also reduces your inflammation, body pain and decreases stress which allows better sleep. The nervous system is an electrical system of the body and influences our stress. An influx of negative electrons from the earth has been shown to calm the nervous system by shifting the autonomic nervous system from the sympathetic, “fight-or-flight” branch toward the parasympathetic “rest-and-digest” branch. Which then allows our cortisol levels drop.
Reduce inflammation with earthing and Grounding
Earthing is capable of alleviating inflammation through the transfer of negatively-charged electrons from the surface of the Earth into the body where the electrons neutralize positively-charged destructive free radicals involved in chronic inflammation. Back to the reduced cortisol levels, cortisol increases inflammation. So this means you have a double benefit for inflammation.
In today’s world we have greatly inhibited our bare skin contact with the Earth. Some people will not even go outside without shoes on. Majority of our shoes have rubber on some part of them which are insulators. In other words, we are not grounding ourselves. This is why it is beneficial to take some time every day to step outside. Ideally you should spend at least 20 minutes making contact with the Earth for a “charge”.
Walk bare foot are a way to increase health
Most studies have shown the amazing potential of grounding while you are on holiday walking bare feet on the beach. It removes anxiety and stress by the simple contact of your sole with the ground.
